Impractical but so much more beautiful.

I took a bunch of my toys out of storage recently. The last time I had them out, I boxed up all the clamshelled toys seperate from the carded toys. I have a big display in my house with room for about 35 carded toys. I hung up some early Movie Maniacs & Austin Powers series 1 & 2, early Spawn and some early series Muppets. They look so good together.

I understand the economics behind toy companies switching to clamshells... I just personally am not a fan of how the finished package looks. I have cases & cases of toys that are clamshell packaged, and there are some aesthetic exceptions for me... but now that I have not bought a toy for months, that is one of the few things I can pinpoint as to what made me want to take a break from collecting.

In 1997 when I started collecting toys I was trying to re-connect with the bygone days of my misspent youth... and now the days of carded toys are on the way out too.

Glad I have the ones I do, though, and I sure as hell am not getting rid of any of them.

im the reverse. i had all my carded figs hanging up but as the clamshells have been coming out im putting them up instead. now all my walls are covered in clamshell and the carded ones are put away. as neat freak and perfectionist i prefer how uniform the clamshells are and how nice everything lines up. plus they are smaller so you can display more of them.

I swear, back when I was into vinyl, I had every cleaning system for them in the world.

Back on topic. I like the carded figs cause they're kind of antiques in a way. I do like how there's a bunch of cool information on the back of them. But I like the clamshells too. Like Classic said, they take up less room.

I buy vinyl over CD anytime I can.

As far as figures, I prefer them boxed like the old Mego figures originally were. Carded, clamshelled, blah, I want them boxed.

Yeah, the card art was much better but clamshells are much more practical for a person like me who will open all figures and eventually store them in their original packages.
